Sideman Projekt

Bringing touring musicians to Berlin to perform recitals in small, intimate venues.

The Sideman Projekt proudly presented another Berlin recital debut, this time by the phenomenal 17-year old Chinese jazz pianist, A Bu who was fresh from a performance at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival and en route to a recital at Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps. On 26 August this young artist, called the "Lang Lang of jazz", charmed the audience with selections from his Sennheiser Media release "Butterflies Fly in Paris". Thanks also to our partner for this event, artribute for introducing us to A Bu.

This performance was the very last one at Classic Pianos Kreuzberg location - we look forward to future performances in their new Schöneberg store!

Making their Berlin recital debut on 6 March 2016 baritone Allen Boxer and pianist Michael Schütze performed an especially moving and mesmerizing program exploring the heart of the Lieder repertoire by Schubert, Wolf, and Mahler, ending with Schumann's iconic Dichterliebe.  Wine was generously provided by our sponsor Arthaus Berlin - Danke schön!

Performing to a packed hall on 13 June 2015 during a spectacular early summer downpour, pianist Jonathan Crayford delighted us with his gorgeous and lush original music and by paying homage to composer friends and legends alike. We also welcomed our new sponsor, Tempting Trash and thanked them for generously providing wine for us all to enjoy.

In a performance prior to their appearance in the prestigious Das Lied competition held every two years in Berlin, Jazimina MacNeil and Jonathan Ware graced the stage of Classic Pianos in the Sideman Projekt's very first classical recital on 16 February 2015. They performed a selection of the more than 30 songs required for the competition - we wish them viel Glück! This performance also marked our first partnership with NPR Berlin - stay tuned for future collaborations.

Fresh from Leipziger Jazztage and the Dresdener Drum & Bass Festival with drummer Mark Guiliana, Jason Lindner made his Berlin solo recital debut at Classic Pianos on 21 September 2014. Playing primarily on a gorgeous vintage GDR August Förster Flügel (grand piano), Jason took advantage of performing in a piano shop and utilized a (semi-tuned) upright and perhaps the first electronic sounds in the nine year history of the Classic Pianos concert series. A memorable evening for all.

In true Sideman Projekt style, on 12 April 2014 pianist Peter Apfelbaum graced the stage of Classic Pianos with his first solo recital in Berlin in twenty years, en route from playing l'Arsenal de Metz (France) with Omar Sosa and en route to Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha (Qatar). The audience was treated to two sets of Peter's unmistakable music including some ear-bending prepared piano sounds via a silver bracelet and a sheet of paper.
